Discovery and Configuration
There is a new entry in the License Key Details titled Custom Entity Limit. This is the maximum number of Custom Data Type Entities that are allowed for the license.
A new Network Discovery entry has been added to the Admin Tool called Custom Data Ranges. These Rules determine which IP ranges certain Custom Data Types will be limited to.
Using these rules you can limit certain Data Types to different parts of your network. If you do not specify a Custom Data Type in this configuration then it will be applied to all discovered devices.
For Example QoS reporting can result in a large number of Entities being generated so to stay under the Custom Entity Limit of your license you may wish to only monitor QoS on a few key devices.
Auto Grouping Rule to Enable/Disable Custom Data Type Polling
You can easily Enable/Disable polling for a Custom Data Type by creating an Auto Grouping Rule. The Group Type drop-down will list available Custom Data Types which have a suffix of (Custom Data).
By creating a Rule that includes all Entities in a Custom Data Type you can quickly toggle the polling status using the Poll State drop-down.
For Custom Data Types, only device attributes are available from the Attribute Filter, which means that attribute filtering can only be done at the device level. However, specific entities can be filtered using a group filter.
The Admin tool grouping pages (‘xxxx to a Group’ and ‘Group to a xxxx’) have been replaced with two pages:
- Entities to a Group (where entities can be assigned to a single group)
- Groups to an Entity (where groups can be assigned to a single entity)
For ‘Groups to an Entity’, the entity type and device must be selected from the dropdown menus on the left. Once an entity is selected, groups can be assigned/unassigned to the selected entity using the section on the right.
For ‘Entities to a Group’, the group is selected from the frame on the left. The entity type and device must then be selected from the dropdown menus in the section on the right. Entities can then be assigned/unassigned to the selected group.
The Discovery Log now lists all of the Custom Data Types that are loaded.
